Script Analysis & BEcome a Character

Hi! I'm Ami and thank you for reading my blog.

Today I want to share about BEcoming a character.

My acting coach says

"Playing(Acting) a character is becoming a character. The more you give the more you get. And it depends on how much you want to BE."

He also says

"The actor must know what the character knows."

There are many ways to understand about the character you are going to play.

And if you really want to know how to READ A SCRIPT, I recommend taking class at tori studio.

BEcoming a character is not easy.

Right now, I am working on a scene from a Japanese film "Nagai iiwake(A long excuse)"

If you are intrested I recommend watching the movie, but my character has a special skill. She is a hairdresser.

Of course I do not have any knowledge or skills for hairdressing.

So to know her life I needed a research about hairdresser.

1) A day of a hairdressor.

・What happens after graduating from schools and passing the test?

・How do you spend the day at the hairsalon?

2) A skill as a hairdressor.

These are the basic ideas that came to my head.

So I contact my aunt who was a hairdressor and asked for a time to interview and teach me how to cut.

Luckily, I knew someone close to me in that profession, but even I didn't know anyone, I would call the hairsalon for an appointment to interview.

However, this is not the end of the story.

Now I need to pracitice and rehearse with my scene partner.

I had a wig that I could practice cutting, but every human is different.

My character was really used to cut her husband's hair for more than 10 years.

So I asked my scene partner to let me get used to his hair.

Also at the same time I work with my script at the same time.

It is called a script analysis.

A part that connects myself and the character.

I do script analysis all the time to learn about the character but HOW to become a character is always different.

That is because every person is living a different life and lived a different life.

I would like to keep up with my work about scripts and characters in this blog.

Thank you!

Have a great day!!!
